Follonica is located in the center of the gulf that bears its name, between the promontory of Piombino and Punta Ala, in front of which lies the Island of Elba. Famous for its equipped seaside resorts and its crystal clear waters, Follonica is Over twenty years_11100000-0000-0000-0000000001111111_Bandiera of Italy._1100000-0000-0000-0000000001111111111111111111111111111111111111 -0000-0000-0000-000000000111_

In particular  it is perfect for children as the sea is just a few steps from the seafront and the sea has shallow waters for a long stretch. Today it is a lively town which, especially in the summer season, offers many leisure opportunities and services for families and young people looking for fun. Since ancient times the town has been a famous center for the processing of iron and cast iron, so much so that its name originates from the fulloni, or ancient bellows, of melting furnaces.

A BEACH

Once in the area, in the direction of Punta Ala, it is certainly worth taking the long walk that leads to the beautiful beach of Cala Violina , considered one of the most beautiful in Italy. In the opposite direction, towards Piombino , you come across the beach of Carbonifera, immersed in_11100000-0000-0000-0000-0000000 00111_ Sterpaia Coastal Park , with fine sand dunes, a centuries-old and lush pine forest and the shallow water is perfect for families with children.

The hinterland is the perfect backdrop to this sea with crystal clear waters, with typical Tuscan villages such as Monterotondo Marittimo, Montieri, Roccastrada,  Gavorrano  and among these it is absolutely unmissable the village of  Massa Marittima , a medieval jewel chosen Orange Flag of the Touring Club.

Cala Violina

How to get to Cala Violina

The beach of Cala Violina can be reached via various routes, both on foot and by bicycle.

The first easier route - is the one on the Punta Ala side and you take the provincial road 158 delle Collacchie by car or motorbike up to kilometer 10, then following the signs for Cala Violina and leaving the car in the parking lot in front. From there, along a path immersed in the pine forest, you arrive on the beach after about 2 km, which takes 20-30 minutes. The use of trekking or sneakers is highly recommended.

The second most difficult route to reach the Cala is the one found on the side of the so-called Puntone. In this case you enter from the Portiglioni barrier immediately after the port of Scarlino. The path is quite long (about 4.5 km) and can be followed on foot or by bicycle. Also in this case it is very important to equip yourself with suitable equipment.
