Crete Senesi

Le Crete Senesi are one of the most evocative places in Tuscany and represent a true treasure chest of naturalistic and artistic beauties. The particular conformation of the crete senesi crete senesi_and the unique atmosphere that surrounds them have made them famous throughout the world. Panoramas that extend as far as the eye can see with a light that, depending on the seasons, takes on different shades: they are an ideal space to immerse yourself in nature. The Crete Senesi extend between the provinces of Siena and Arezzo. Known for their boundless and arid landscape, they seem to come straight out of an impressionist painting. This territory is characterized by clay hills with sinuous and soft shapes that extend for kilometers, creating a spectacular and uncontaminated landscape.

In this area there are no large cities, but only small and enchanting villages that seem to have remained frozen in time. The areas that host this landscape spectacle are Buonconvento, Montalcino, Asciano, San Giovanni d'Asso and Rapolano Terme, which still retain their medieval and Renaissance views convent of Monte Oliveto Maggiore is definitely a place not to be missed during a visit to the Crete Senesi. To embellish this magical and imposing place are the frescoes displayed by Luca Signorelli and Sodoma, which decorate the walls of the corridors and of the church.

The historic center of Medieval Village of Asciano owes its importance to the strategic position south of Siena along the Via Lauretana: do not miss the Civic Archaeological and Art Museum Sacred you where you can admire the paintings of the Sienese Bartolo, Sodoma and Matteo di Giovanni and the bicycle museum.

You can also visit the Abbey of Sant'Antimo, also known as "the gem of Tuscan Romanesque": the structure seems to rise from an expanse of cypresses and olive trees. The hypotheses on its origin are still obscure, although there is a document that would date it back to before the year 1000.

Finally, while reaching these points of attraction, you can enjoy the majestic and characteristic landscape of the strada bianca which starts from Buonconvento and reels off their splendid undulating landscapes. The view is truly unique and spectacular and embraces the rounded tower of Sant'Ansano, the towers of Montalcino and Siena.
